I became obsessed with visual storytelling while
working in medicine in my early 20’s. I’d go into the operating rooms of the
hospital where I worked on my days off to shoot
photos of surgeries.
Although I was studying medicine my goal
wasn’t to document this or that surgery or procedure
but instead capture the enviroment itself.
It is an amazing place full of countless
stories of life and death.
The staff who work daily in the OR are a
breed apart; they are a unique mixture of emotion
and logic.
They have to remain calm in the most
harrowing of circumstances.
They show compassion and caring on a level
few people outside of their world witness or
understand.
Having the ability to capture all of the detail of a
place in time for a faction of a second while
telling a story that is both honest and compelling
became a form of communication I needed to master.
Photography, like cinematography, is another
vocation that allows my mind to open up and work fluidly
through ultilizing both hemispheres of my brain.
Endeavours which challenge me creatively and
technically at the same time are the ones I am drawn
to instinctively.
Below are some presentations of my photography work
from the past two decades.
